Material Futures Lab is addressing the trillions of liters of toxic effluent produced by dye-houses annually, by engineering dye pigments that are expressed through micro-organisms.
Through our proprietary process, we aim to produce the same natural dyes which have been used for thousands of years, while leveraging the huge advantages of microorganisms: that they require little space, are a renewable and scalable resource, are 100% biodegradable, and can be grown in the lab more consistently and with less water than current petroleum or plant-based processes.
