Universal pathogen analyzer
We (ETHZ researchers) have developed a method which can detect different cells (virus, bacteria, blood cells, tumor cells, etc.) simultaneously. The method combines optical spectroscopy, nanotechnology and big-data. IP-protection is in progress. We are now developing a prototype (an automated machine) for our method. We aim to establish the startup company in a year.
The potential markets are water quality monitoring, food pathogen testing and medical diagnostics. Initially, we will focus on the water quality monitoring as it is the least regulated market.
The advantages of the method are as follows:
Today, every single pathogen requires a different analysis technique. 10 different pathogens can be analyzed applying 10 different tests. Our method can detect multiple different pathogens of different kinds and sizes in a single test.
Food & beverages industry, chemical testing laboratories, research institutes, universities, environment monitoring and protection agencies are potential costumers. If the technology evolves to be a medical diagnostics tool, hospitals and medical testing laboratories can also be potential costumers.
