Lego for electrical installations

While working for more than 15 years in building maintenance, I could visit hundreds of customer's homes and businesses, to fix what was broken, renovate, or build from scratch. During this time I could identify patterns of problems and flaws in electrical installations, that many times would disrupt the efficient and safe use of electricity. Some of them were:

  • Overcrowded outlets: the number of electric devices increases every year, but available electrical infrastructure does not follow up.
  • Insufficient lighting: Building installations often do not fulfill user's needs.
  • Old buildings: Outdated materials and lack of maintenance difficult use and increase risks of failure and fire.
  • Design flaws: Terminals and connections are under lots of electrical and mechanical stress, usually where failures occur.
  • The high cost of hiring an electrician sometimes pushes the users to create installations without proper safety or technical accordance.
  • Even professional electricians could commit errors during installation or use irregular material or techniques.
  • The use of IoT devices is complex and many times incompatible or conflicting with existing installations.

All these issues could be addressed with the use of an error-proof system, with pre-wired components and built-in connectors and no contact with energized parts.

A system where fewer tools and technical knowledge are required to install, easier to be customized, maintained, upgraded, and integrated with IoT and solar energy.

With all these issues in mind, I developed a Modular Electrical System, where all the components of the installation would be assembled through a plug-and-play mechanism, avoiding misconnections, errors, contact with electrical parts, and issues caused by lack of technical background.

This system is integrated with IoT and different devices like motion sensors, detectors, security components, and solar energy. A digital platform and App would allow the user to design installations, shop for products, monitor and control modules, and access cloud services.

The project is in its third hardware prototype iteration and looking for potential cofounders and collaborators in different areas, like engineering, design, product development, software, marketing, etc.

The idea is to create a solid team to apply to startup accelerators and funding, as the path to deliver a fully working product is a long road. If you think you could aggregate value to the project, no matter which area, I would like to hear from you!
